Entry into Elite Winter Swimmer

If you or your swimmers is interested in Elite and has already  trained year round with another USA or YMCA swimming team, entry into Elite can be done 1 of 2 ways: 1) thru attending an obligation free appropriate level practice and experiencing Elite first hand or 2) thru formal tryouts.

Most Winter Swimmers understand the moving to a new club is a big move. Moving to the right club is crucial. So when in the process of making this decision, why not experience Elite firsthand?

All Winter Swimmers who are interested in Elite are welcome to contact Head Coach Bill Deatly at eliteswimclubnj@comcast.net to arrange for attendance at the appropriate level training group practice. The interested swimmer is encouraged to bring their suit and goggles and get right in and practice. Interested swimmers can sample an Elite practice any day of any season, as many of Elite's best new swimmers have moved "in-season."

The sample practice also allows Elite Coaches to evaluate the swimmer among other Elite swimmers. This insures the proper placement of the interested swimmer into Elite.

Another way to gain access to Elite would be thru the traditional tryout senario. Prior to each training season, Elite conducts tryouts for those Winter and Non-Winter Swimmers.

At tryouts, swimmers will be asked to swim 3 times: 1) free and 2) and 3) are the swimmers choice of back, breast and butterfly. These swims are timed.

In addition, Elite coaches will take each swimmer into a lane and watch the swimmer perform their strokes in a more relaxed, non-race situation.

Between the times achieved and the review of the strokes at tryouts, Head Coach Bill Deatly will place an accepted swimmer in the appropriate training group. From there, swimmers will be promoted into higher training levels thru commitment (see attendance/promotion page) and thru training with the top swimmers in their training group.

The next Elite tryouts are Tuesday, July 22 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Morristown-Beard School and on Tuesday, Sept 2nd from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at Newark Academy.
